It is just history repeating itself

Mr Warner, as a former lecturer in history, you of all persons should know in T&T the records would show that radical social, political and economic changes have always been, in the main, led and nurtured by African Trinis.

Have you forgotten the changes fought for the working class by Tubal Uriah Butler in 1937; the radical shake-up of business establishments in 1970 leading to the employment of Afro Trinis and East Indians in banks and other premier institutions for the first time, led by Makandal Daaga and the Black Power Movement?

Would you dare to admit that the movement paved the way for you to ascend to the position of FIFA vice-president? Have you forgotten the pivotal role played by African Trinis led by Dr Eric Williams, Dr Eric Solomon, John Donaldson, Sir Ellis Clarke, ANR Robinson, Doodridge Alleyne, in our attainment of self-goverment in 1956, independence in 1962, republicanism in 1976?

As a historian, you would know that all these benchmarks were attained with staunch opposition initially from East Indians, Whites, Chinese and mixed races who came on board at later stages of the process. If African Trinis are again in the vanguard seeking to demand justice for the Section 34 coup and punishment for the perpetrators, then history is merely repeating itself.
