From as early as Friday night, thousands of people converged on the streets of Point Fortin to participate in the annual Borough Day celebration which was held yesterday. The festival went smoothly as only a few minor incidents of violence were reported. All fights and scuffles were quickly contained by members of the Police service who were out in their numbers. The ambulance service was quickly on hand for all the minor treatments that took place during the event. Concerns that loud music from DJs would disturb the steel bands were nipped in the bud as the DJ's switched off their music while the pan bands passed through the streets. The We Meet/Pan Jam started on Friday night from 7 pm in which pan lovers chipped beside their favourite bands as they proceeded to the judging points.

Among the steel bands were, TCL Skiffle Bunch, Trinidad Valley Harps, Point Fortin Tornadoes, WITCO Desperados and bpTT All Stars. After the sounds of steel had passed, there was one of the biggest street parties in the country in which music was provided by DJ's positioned along the Main Road. The J'Ouvert celebrations began promptly at 4 am with bands coming from every corner of the borough with a few guest bands from San Fernando. There were soca artiste performing on music trucks, such as Super Blue and Orlando Octave. Mud Mas, Blue Devils, Jab Jabs and some modern mas filled the streets as they reveled behind some 40-foot transportation trucks. The delicious band, Chocolate City, tantalized with their appealing outfits as they paraded down the Point Fortin Southern Main Road.

The crew, Spring Break, displayed their colourful attire and festive spirits, wining heavily behind the trucks while the band, Candace and Jeff, created a Hawaiian festival with their presentation of Luau. After the morning sessions were finished, the streets were cleaned and the Kiddies Carnival and modern day mas began. It was followed the Pan Glorious Pan competition at 6 pm. Celebrations continue today with the Dragon Boat Regatta and the single pan fiesta which will be followed by the Scholarship Fund's Cool Down at the Guapo Beach Facility.
