Fyzabad band tops in Siparia pan contest

In a spir­it­ed bat­tle of the steel­bands at the an­nu­al Siparia Fete pan com­pe­ti­tion, Fyz­abad 4th Di­men­sion snatched the $10,000 first prize in the Pan on the Move on Sat­ur­day evening.The colour­ful­ly dressed young pan­nists de­liv­ered sweet mu­sic be­fore the large crowd on the streets.Un­der a slight driz­zle, the com­pe­ti­tion flowed smooth­ly. It was di­vid­ed in­to three seg­ments: Pan on the Move, re­li­gious com­pe­ti­tion and a Baron com­pe­ti­tion.Di­men­sion's tunes of choice, What a Friend We Have in Je­sus and This Sweet Melody, arranged by Dar­ren Shep­pard, earned them third spot in the re­li­gious song cat­e­go­ry and fourth in the Baron seg­ment re­spec­tive­ly.

The T&T Fire Ser­vices band placed sec­ond, eight points be­hind in the Pan on the Move with Hear My Cry and sec­ond with Say Say, in the Baron seg­ment, arranged by BJ Mar­celle. The band al­so won the best flag-wav­ing prize.Round­ing up the top three in the Pan on the Move com­pe­ti­tion was Trinidad East Side.Scrun­ters Pan Groove won the first prize of $5,000 in the re­li­gious com­pe­ti­tion for its ren­di­tion of Let There be Peace on Earth.Led by Lloyd Sobers, the band al­so took third place in the Baron com­pe­ti­tion with Dis Sweet Melody arranged by Alex­is Hope.This year's com­pe­ti­tion was ded­i­cat­ed to for­mer Siparia Del­tones cap­tain, the late El­lis Knights.
