Basketball elects four new officers

Four new faces were added to the ex­ec­u­tive coun­cil of the Na­tion­al Bas­ket­ball Fed­er­a­tion of T&T (NBFTT) at the An­nu­al Gen­er­al Meet­ing (AGM) which took place at the Me­dia Con­fer­ence Room at the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um Cou­va yes­ter­day. The new in­di­vid­u­als that will as­sist in the ad­min­is­tra­tion of the sport are for­mer teacher/ed­u­ca­tor Trevor Mor­ris, who is now the vice pres­i­dent of Or­gan­i­sa­tion and De­vel­op­ment, Leslee Ceasar, a very ex­pe­ri­ence team-ori­ent­ed ac­counts ex­ec­u­tive, who is now the vice pres­i­dent of fi­nance, Cheryl Lala, who is an award win­ning ad­ver­tis­ing ex­ec­u­tive that will serve as vice pres­i­dent of Mar­ket­ing and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Phillip San­cho, a for­mer union ex­ec­u­tive who will serve as as­sis­tant sec­re­tary. They were all elect­ed un­op­posed in the pres­ence of re­turn­ing of­fi­cer Cather­ine Forde of the T&T Olympic Com­mit­tee (TTOC). Al­so elect­ed with­out a con­test was Na­dine Khan Seemon­gal, who was el­e­vat­ed from as­sis­tant sec­re­tary to the new gen­er­al sec­re­tary with full re­spon­si­bil­i­ty of the sport sec­re­tari­at.

Khan, a for­mer play­er with cham­pi­on team Courts Hori­zon, re­placed the vet­er­an Kelvin Roberts, who did not stand for re-elec­tion. The meet­ing took the time to ho­n­our Roberts and show its ap­pre­ci­a­tion for his ded­i­ca­tion and yeo­man ser­vice to the sport for more than three decades. Khan brings to the po­si­tion her ex­per­tise as an ad­ver­tis­ing ex­ec­u­tive and hav­ing serve the or­gan­i­sa­tion as its as­sis­tant sec­re­tary for the past sev­en months. Court­ney Mc­Nish, pres­i­dent of the Fed­er­a­tion po­si­tion was not up for re-elec­tion.

The oth­er in­cum­bents were ref­er­ee Ear­le Noel, vice-pres­i­dent (VP) Or­gan­i­sa­tion and De­vel­op­ment, banker Roland Yorke, VP Fi­nance and Mel­ony Mor­ton, VP Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Mar­ket­ing all of whom did not stand for re-lec­tion. Ma­jor David Ben­jamin, the VP Train­ing and Tech­ni­cal was re-elect­ed.

Fol­low­ing the Fed­eraon's de­ci­sion last year to ap­prove a new four year term of of­fice for all its of­fi­cers to co­in­cide with that of the Caribbean Bas­ket­ball Con­fed­er­a­tion (CBC) and FI­BA, the pres­i­dent Mc­Nish, who was elect­ed at last year's AGM fol­low­ing the res­ig­na­tion of Bri­an Man­ning, will serve un­til 2013 along with the as­sis­tant sec­re­tary, the VPs of Mar­ket­ing and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Train­ing and Tech­ni­cal, while the oth­er of­fi­cers will serve un­til 2015. Apart from the elec­tion of the new of­fi­cers, the meet­ing ac­cept­ed fi­nan­cial state­ments from Yorke and all re­ports in­clud­ing the min­utes of the 2010 agm were dis­cussed and ap­proved by the meet­ing. The meet­ing al­so pre­sent­ed FI­BA coach­ing li­cens­es to Hay­den Bel­grove and Vin­cent Tay­lor, FI­BA in­struc­tor li­cense to Oba­di­ah Ash­er, the Fed­er­a­tion's Tech­ni­cal Di­rec­tor and FI­BA Com­mis­sion­er li­cense to Kei­th Clement. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from six of the sport's nine zones, all four af­fil­i­ates and one of four as­so­ciates at­tend­ed the meet­ing.
