W Connection teenaged star Zaine Pierre will be hoping to land a professional contract with Italy's Serie A club Genoa, when he undertakes a two-week trial stint there shortly. The 17-year-old, who has had several trial stints in the past at British and American clubs, will leave here Saturday for the north-western Italian club which will be covering all the player's expenses. W Connection owner David John-Williams said the move was another important one in helping Pierre to further his career.
"He has the experience of being on trials with some of the top clubs in England and the USA while he was still 16 years old so that will serve him in good stead," John-Williams said. "Pierre may still be a teenager but I'm confident that he will give a good account of himself knowing that he has a chance to play for one of the top clubs in Italian football." Only last year, Pierre enjoyed stints at top English Premiership clubs Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Spurs and travelled to the United States earlier this year for trials with US Major League Soccer club, San Jose Earthquakes.
