T&T's Adrian De Silva and Luke De Caires each advanced to the Boys Under 18 second round of the St Vincent and the Grenadines ITF Junior Tournament with straight sets wins over their opponents on Monday.
Fourth seed De Silva, ranked 611th in the world among juniors, beat local Julio Francis 6-1, 6-0 while seventh seed De Caires (743rd) won his match against Australian Jett Cash (2063rd) 6-4, 6-0. Their comrade Jualon Greig (1431st) was beaten by American Ryan Newman 6-1, 6-3.
In the second round, De Silva was set to play American Erik Vincek (977th) yesterday while De Caires was to meet his doubles partner, American Matthew Cravinhos. In the Girls Under 18 Singles, Taphenes Koroma edged Guyana's Krystal Sukra 7-6 (2), 6-2 though Kezia Koroma (1467th) went down to Bajan Cherise Slocombe (1916th) 6-4, 6-4. Fourth seed Breana Stampfli (732nd) was given a first round bye and was to face American Julia Weisel while Koroma (T) had to play third seed Elysse Grace of the USA (635th).
Top seed Elan Mendes was a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Bajan Shane Mustor in the first round of the Boys Under 14 Singles while Ethan Ammon won 6-2, 6-4 over Tjimon Louisy. Nabeel Mohammed was beaten 7-6 (2), 6-3 by fourth seeded St Lucian James Stevenson and Gianluc Robinson lost to Bajan Gavin Hutchinson 6-1, 6-3.
