Local swimmers Kimberlee John-Williams and Joshua Romany ended their participation at the Third FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru on Saturday without a medal. Competing in her final event at the Campo de Marte Complex, Swimming Pool, the USA-based John-Williams was third in the girls' 100 metres butterfly heat in one minute, 04.19 seconds to trail Venezuela's Isabella Paez (1:03.64 mins) and Peru's Alejandra Espinoza (1:04.02 mins).
However, her time was only good for 24th spot overall, to miss out on a top-16 semifinal spot. The other finishers in her heat were Mexico's Sharon Rodriguez (1:04.75), Czech Rrepublic's Lenka Lukasova (1:04.77), Serbian, Katarina Simonovic (1:04.80), Paraguay's Paloma Rivera (1:06.99) and Zimbabwe's Kaleigh Graham, clock in 1:07.14. John-Williams also placed 23rd overall in the 100m backstroke in 1:06.11, and established a new national open record in the 50 metres backstroke in 30.44 seconds for 17th overall. She had previously held the record of 30.48 which was her gold medal swim at the 2011 CCCAN Championships.
Romany, meanwhile, was second fastest in heat five of nine, in the boys 100m freestyle with a time of 52.25 seconds to finish behind Venezuelan, Erick Perez (52.05). But like John-Williams, Romany failed to qualify for the semifinals as his time was only good for 30th overall. The other finishers in the heat were Kuwait's Salman Qali (52.59), Aruba's Yemal Le Grand (53.09), Mexico's Rodrigo Martinez (53.43), Argentinian Roberto Strelkov (53.47), Singapore's Isaac Schooling(54.08) and South African, Sayea Gamiet (54.22). In his previous events, Romany placed 23rd in the 50 metres freestyle in 23.59, and 18th in the 200m freestyle in 1:53.91.
