We napped On The Dark Side at New­bury last time out but a tardy start and the fact this Khe­leyf fil­ly could nev­er get in­to a chal­leng­ing po­si­tion, meant Philip Makin gave up the cause a long way out; beat­en on­ly five lengths and 10lbs be­low pre­vi­ous ef­fort was an in­ter­est­ing, if dis­ap­point­ing, ef­fort but much bet­ter is ex­pect­ed this af­ter­noon.

This is an ab­solute bel­ter, de­serv­ing of 'list­ed' sta­tus and all run­ners are pre­vi­ous win­ners. This time, Makin will be hell bent on get­ting her out like a rock­et and hold­ing prime po­si­tion. It should be fas­ci­nat­ing and at huge odds, it might just pay to stick with the 'Dark' horse! Ear­li­er, Hay­ley Turn­er rides top-rat­ed, Gun­ner Will in the Maid­en Stakes, over sev­en fur­longs at Ep­som which brings in­to play bal­ance and judge­ment. There's no one bet­ter than 'dai­ly earn­er' and fol­low­ing two promis­ing runs, Gun­ner Will rep­re­sents a tremen­dous bet­ting propo­si­tion and must not be missed.

Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day is al­ways fre­net­ic and over­whelm­ing but by stream­lin­ing the process and stick­ing to set-weight races, re­duces the work load. An­oth­er 'cert' is Roedean in the Maid­en Fil­lies' Stakes over a mile at Chep­stow. Over the years, I've no­ticed Richard Han­non of­ten raids this Welsh venue dur­ing bank hol­i­day meet­ings and Roedean, named af­ter a fa­mous col­lege for girls, should prove an at­trac­tion.
