Car theft ring busted with arrest of eight

A car theft and scrap­ping ring was bust­ed on Sun­day by po­lice af­ter eight sus­pects were ar­rest­ed.

Of­fi­cers of the Freeport Po­lice Sta­tion made the dis­cov­ery while chas­ing a man want­ed for sev­er­al crimes in Ch­agua­nas. Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tors said around 5.30 pm on Sun­day, of­fi­cers chased the man in­to a house in Li­on's Dri­ve, Or­ange Field Road, Chase Vil­lage. Af­ter they ap­pre­hend­ed the man, checks at the prop­er­ty re­vealed more than $200,000 in stolen car parts. A Toy­ota Al­tis and a Nis­san Navara al­so were re­cov­ered. Both ve­hi­cles were re­cent­ly re­port­ed stolen from ad­dress­es in cen­tral Trinidad.

The stolen car parts in­clud­ed fend­ers, tyres, rims, head and tail lights of ve­hi­cles of var­i­ous makes.

The items were tak­en to the Freeport Po­lice Sta­tion for iden­ti­fi­ca­tion by their own­ers. ASP John­ny Abra­ham and Sgt Jer­ry Ho­sein are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.Mean­while, an ex­er­cise in cen­tral Trinidad has re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of more than 40 per­sons. Dur­ing the ex­er­cise on Sun­day, spear­head­ed by Se­nior Supt Ram­say and Supt Ce­les­tine Phillip, a quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na, co­caine and a home­made shot­gun were re­cov­ered.

The drugs were found dur­ing a raid at a house in Mon­trose, Ch­agua­nas, while the il­le­gal firearm was re­cov­ered in En­ter­prise. The ex­er­cise al­so in­clud­ed ASP John­ny Abra­ham, In­spec­tor Wayne Lawrence, mem­bers of the Ca­nine Unit and De­fence Force per­son­nel.
