Sev­en more men ac­cused of be­ing gang mem­bers were freed yes­ter­day af­ter Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions Roger Gas­pard dropped the charges against them. The ac­cused were the last of ten peo­ple, charged un­der the An­ti-Gang leg­is­la­tion in the Princes Town Mag­is­trates' Court, to be set free with­in the past four days.

Last Fri­day, Mar­vin Pas­call, Rei­ba Ro­driquez and Sheik Etahie were freed, while the mat­ters of Ker­ron Moah­mmed, Aki­ni Mark, Gabriel Ben­jamin, Make­si Mo­hammed, Vikas Shar­ma, Ja­son Sim­mons, Mar­cus Thomp­son were ad­journed to yes­ter­day.

When the men reap­peared be­fore mag­is­trate In­di­ra Ce­de­no, State at­tor­ney Sa­nara Toon in­di­cat­ed that the DPP had filed a dis­con­tin­u­ance of pro­ceed­ing in ac­cor­dance to Sec­tion 90 of the charge of be­ing a gang mem­ber. The men were among the first set of men to be ar­rest­ed on gang-re­lat­ed of­fences since the State of Emer­gency came in­to ef­fect on Au­gust 22. Three of the sev­en men had pend­ing mat­ters. The mag­is­trate set bail for two of the men on pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na charges while the third was de­nied bail on a gun charge. On Sep­tem­ber 12, 21 men from Nel­son Street, Port-of- Spain, al­so were set free on sim­i­lar charges.
