A Mara­bel­la casi­no own­er re­mained in po­lice cus­tody up to late yes­ter­day in con­nec­tion with the theft of a $750,000 gen­er­a­tor from the Di­vali Na­gar site, Ch­agua­nas. The gen­er­a­tor, which was leased from a Bel­mont com­pa­ny, was re­cov­ered at Union Road, Mara­bel­la, on Thurs­day night by of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force (NEDTF) led by Sgt Roger Alexan­der and Cpl Sunil Bharath. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, at around 9.15 pm, a par­ty of of­fi­cers act­ing on in­for­ma­tion went to a car park in Mara­bel­la where they re­cov­ered the stolen gen­er­a­tor.

Po­lice said a 44-year-old se­cu­ri­ty guard was ar­rest­ed at the com­pound, who told in­ves­ti­ga­tors that his boss (the casi­no own­er) placed it there that day and left it in his care. The po­lice then went to the 54-year-old busi­ness­man's South­ern Main Road, Mara­bel­la, home where he was ar­rest­ed. Both men were tak­en to the Mor­vant Po­lice Sta­tion for fur­ther in­quiries. Po­lice said the gen­er­a­tor was re­port­ed miss­ing by or­gan­is­ers at the site ear­li­er that day. Cpl Frank­tom, PCs Jerome Gor­don and Trevor Ram­baran were in­volved in the ex­er­cise. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
