A Marabella casino owner remained in police custody up to late yesterday in connection with the theft of a $750,000 generator from the Divali Nagar site, Chaguanas. The generator, which was leased from a Belmont company, was recovered at Union Road, Marabella, on Thursday night by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) led by Sgt Roger Alexander and Cpl Sunil Bharath. According to police reports, at around 9.15 pm, a party of officers acting on information went to a car park in Marabella where they recovered the stolen generator.
Police said a 44-year-old security guard was arrested at the compound, who told investigators that his boss (the casino owner) placed it there that day and left it in his care. The police then went to the 54-year-old businessman's Southern Main Road, Marabella, home where he was arrested. Both men were taken to the Morvant Police Station for further inquiries. Police said the generator was reported missing by organisers at the site earlier that day. Cpl Franktom, PCs Jerome Gordon and Trevor Rambaran were involved in the exercise. Investigations are continuing.
