A total of $22 million is expected to be spent to reconnect the old Piparo Road, almost 12 years after mud volcanoes ravaged the village. The disclosure was made yesterday by Works and Infrastructure Minister Jack Warner, who toured the Princes Town constituency along with MP Neela Khan. Reiterating that the Government did not have the same funds as in past years, Warner said $1 billion could have been spent to address the constituents' concerns.
Warner and a team from his ministry visited the Old Piparo Road which was the scene of horror when mud covered villagers' homes and cars. Khan said the incident had cut off residents of Piparo Road which prompted the construction of Dhandagie Hosiene Trace. However, she said it took residents of the New Piparo Road 20-30 minutes to get home. She said after completion of the works, it would take the residents approximately five minutes to get home.
