Valencia Heat secured a last gasp exciting 66-62 win over National Flour Mills (NFM) in the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League (SBL), on the third Match Day at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, on Tuesday night.Nikkel St Clair, and forward Kenrick Bernard won the match for the Heat when the former netted the only open basket with the final seconds on the clock running down, and the latter sealing full points when he was fouled as the seconds ticked off the clock.St Clair connected with a rebound in mid-air and made a quick put back for Valencia Heat. His only other point came from a free-throw.
Both Bernard and Ronald Winters netted 15 points for Heat. Power-forward Stephon Davis and forward Fabrice Fisher were both on target with 10 points each, for the winning team.Richad Mungo, as well as Joe "The Beast" McDonald both of whom starred in Casa Grande All Stars' 1991 championship winning team, featured for Valencia Heat.NFM's best players on the day came in the form of Westfield and Julius Sprott, son of former NFL standout Albert "Spotty" Sprott. The duo scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.In the earlier women's fixture, Brian Chase Academy (BCA) displayed a completely dominant performance over the Diego Martin All Stars, winning 56-38.The All Stars attempted to mount a comeback in the final quarter of the match, scoring most of their points in the closing period, but they were evidently no match for the opponents of superior stature.

Forward Allison Young top scored with 19 points for BCA, followed by Kathy-Ann King, who bagged 13 points. Former national stand-out forward made her debut for BCA and the SBL, and contributed with six points. Castanada pulled down eight rebounds, during her maiden league run.Diego Martin was led by the talented, agile Anika Nottingham, who top-scored for either team with 22 points. Her counter-part Samantha Wallace pitched in 10 points, while grabbing seven rebounds.Despite the brave attempt by Diego Martin, the team was never really in the match.Valencia Heat will be back in action today against UTT from 7 pm, followed by Diego Martin All Stars and Sando Petro Jazz.The matches will take place at the same venue.
