Va­len­cia Heat se­cured a last gasp ex­cit­ing 66-62 win over Na­tion­al Flour Mills (NFM) in the Mack­e­son Su­per 10 Bas­ket­ball League (SBL), on the third Match Day at the Jean Pierre Com­plex, Wright­son Road, on Tues­day night.Nikkel St Clair, and for­ward Ken­rick Bernard won the match for the Heat when the for­mer net­ted the on­ly open bas­ket with the fi­nal sec­onds on the clock run­ning down, and the lat­ter seal­ing full points when he was fouled as the sec­onds ticked off the clock.St Clair con­nect­ed with a re­bound in mid-air and made a quick put back for Va­len­cia Heat. His on­ly oth­er point came from a free-throw.

Both Bernard and Ronald Win­ters net­ted 15 points for Heat. Pow­er-for­ward Stephon Davis and for­ward Fab­rice Fish­er were both on tar­get with 10 points each, for the win­ning team.Richad Mun­go, as well as Joe "The Beast" Mc­Don­ald both of whom starred in Casa Grande All Stars' 1991 cham­pi­onship win­ning team, fea­tured for Va­len­cia Heat.NFM's best play­ers on the day came in the form of West­field and Julius Sprott, son of for­mer NFL stand­out Al­bert "Spot­ty" Sprott. The duo scored 13 and 10 points, re­spec­tive­ly.In the ear­li­er women's fix­ture, Bri­an Chase Acad­e­my (BCA) dis­played a com­plete­ly dom­i­nant per­for­mance over the Diego Mar­tin All Stars, win­ning 56-38.The All Stars at­tempt­ed to mount a come­back in the fi­nal quar­ter of the match, scor­ing most of their points in the clos­ing pe­ri­od, but they were ev­i­dent­ly no match for the op­po­nents of su­pe­ri­or stature.

Bri­an Chase Acad­e­my out­plays Diego Mar­tin All Stars

For­ward Al­li­son Young top scored with 19 points for BCA, fol­lowed by Kathy-Ann King, who bagged 13 points. For­mer na­tion­al stand-out for­ward made her de­but for BCA and the SBL, and con­tributed with six points. Cas­tana­da pulled down eight re­bounds, dur­ing her maid­en league run.Diego Mar­tin was led by the tal­ent­ed, ag­ile Ani­ka Not­ting­ham, who top-scored for ei­ther team with 22 points. Her counter-part Saman­tha Wal­lace pitched in 10 points, while grab­bing sev­en re­bounds.De­spite the brave at­tempt by Diego Mar­tin, the team was nev­er re­al­ly in the match.Va­len­cia Heat will be back in ac­tion to­day against UTT from 7 pm, fol­lowed by Diego Mar­tin All Stars and San­do Petro Jazz.The match­es will take place at the same venue.
