The North East Zonal Cricket Council will begin their cricket competitions for 2011 in the middle of next month and this is because of the unpredictable weather being experienced. Chairman of the North East Zonal Council, Arjoon Ramlal says that cricket grounds in the North East are not yet up to standard and they would like to give the clubs enough time to have them ready before bowling off the season.
"The weather has been a bit dicey and as a result we have decided to start our competition in mid-February. By then we believe that the grounds will be ready and the cricket will come off as we want it." The North East Zone will have a Senior Division which comprises eight teams and a First Division with another eight teams. The league will bowl off first and the first three rounds will be played as three day matches, this will be followed by four two day matches to finish off the competition.
Ramlal added they will continue with the under-19 competition which was started last year. "The under-19 competition for the Senior Division clubs which was started last year, proved to be very successful and we have decided to go along with this competition again this year. We see this as an important development tool in the Zone."
