At the time, Dr Christopher Lushington, director of Caribbean Basin Area activities of Missions International and a member of Operation Rainbow, said doctors could not determine what the problem was. "We have got all his records from the San Fernando General Hospital and we have sent it abroad for a histology (study of the tissue)," he said. "There is only one case I have ever seen like this and that was in Nigeria many years ago...We are still perplexed as to what this is." Initially, blood analysis and tissue biopsies were inconclusive and further tests using more advanced medical equipment were done. Lochan was later given antibiotics and even underwent a blood transfusion. He said doctors at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital gave him medication which reduced the size of the boils. He added that some of the tablets were costly and he was often unable to afford the medication. Anyone willing to assist Lochan can contact him at 779-0496
