Members of the Spiritual Baptist faith are now appealing for a school in South Trinidad, and one in Central. The appeal was made yesterday by head of the St Ann's Church of the Spiritual Metaphysics in McBean, Couva, Bishop Patrick Brown, as he spoke with the media, after the congregation held a procession from the church to Deonarine Junction. Brown said more schools were needed because the Baptist community was growing. He said more young people were turning to the faith. He said his church planned to open a school of theology and start a youth group to ensure its younger members were educated in the faith.
Brown also called on parents to ensure that they instilled a strict sense of discipline in their children.
He said while parents should love their children, they should not spoil them and in the end create another generation of undisciplined young people. He said said the country was on the right track and that crime had decreased a "little bit." Brown said yesterday's Spiritual Baptiste Liberation Day holiday was a tremendous achievement for the community, since it represented the freedom of the Shouter Baptists to practise their religion freely and with the highest level of dignity.
