His friend Bryan Bowen, the founder of Bowen Ma­rine, was killed in Ch­aguara­mus by a drunk dri­ver in 1989. More re­cent­ly, for­mer Madon­na Wheel­ers' cy­clist Michael Tung suf­fered in­juries and need­ed surgery af­ter be­ing knocked down in Ari­ma in Au­gust. The dri­ver was re­port­ed­ly over­tak­ing on the shoul­der. Re­gion­al­ly, Bar­ba­dos lost two of its cy­clists in sim­i­lar ac­ci­dents in 2009.
