Kwinsi Williams walked away with the Harold Joseph trophy for the "Youth Cricketer of the Year" at the Home Construction Limited (HCL) Trincity Cricket League awards function. The event was held on November 13 at the HCL Organisational and Development Centre in Tacarigua.
For the second straight year, a player from the Ulric "Buggy" Haynes Coaching School has won the top youth award. Last year, Brian Christmas, also of the coaching school, was the recipient. Williams also collected a pair of cricket pads for his outstanding performance this season including scoring the most runs and claiming 7-14 in the Sonny Rampersad Two-Evening competition. The University of the West Indies Sport and Education Centre UWISPEC) team won the competition.
UWISPEC defeated Cane Farm in the final of the competition by 33 runs. Adrian Ali emerged the "Man-of-the-Match" after scoring 47. Former West Indies player Lendl Simmons collected the award for the most runs, 390 in seven innings with an average of 97.5. He had the best batting effort of 151 not out and notched three half centuries in the season.
The young cricketers were treated to an address by former West Indies and Barbados opening batsman, Gordon Greenidge, advising the youngsters to stay with their club to build it up.First vice president of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB), Dudnath Ramkessoon, gave the feature address.
