The debut children’s book Grandma’s Song: A Children’s Book About Memory Loss And The Gift Of Music was written by daughter of the soil, and Tennessee-based author Jewel Alexander. While it has not had its debut in T&T, it is already receiving outstanding reviews, and as one reviewer stated: “This book should be used in schools worldwide.”

Jewel’s late mother, a main character in the book, is revered in the history books of Trinidad and Tobago as one of the first women, if not the first woman, to ever play the steelpan.

Grandma’s Song has been described as a “thoughtful story about a grandmother’s memory loss through the eyes of a child.” Another review touts “this book illustrates for children that although they are young, they can still make a difference in the life of an adult.”

The children’s book Grandma’s Song is a heartwarming story for children and caregivers. It is a story based on real events in the author’s life and depicts aging and memory loss. It showcases the love within a family, and the powerful gift of music.
