Carnival 2020 is in full swing and although many of us may have vowed to keep up with our exercise routine last year in order to avoid starting over in January, some of us may have been unsuccessful yet again. It’s okay if you may have fallen off but just remember your reason for starting and getting back on the horse or spin bike.
Others may not give into the hype associated with physical activity this season and may have vowed to run in the opposite direction. However, carnival physique aside, we all need to include movement in our daily lives.
Running from fete to fete does not count and it may be illogical trying to run around the savannah with half of Trinbago doing it too. However, a good and steady jog uphill will be welcomed as you prepare for all the jumping and waving over the next two months. If you feel extra adventurous, why not add some ankle weights? You can always take them off if you feel like you’re about to pass out. Whether you prefer to start your morning off at this pace or end your night with it, endure for at least three times a week and observe how your mind and body change for the long haul.
Jump into a dance studio
It doesn’t matter the dance style, just get into your studio of choice and move. It’s even better when you take a friend or three along so you can all bond while keeping fit. Get that heart rate up, sculpt or develop those muscles and learn a new move or two to show off just in time for the fetes.
Go for a swim
There is no right or wrong time to swim. We live on an island - we all should really learn to swim. Why not check out your community pool for an aerobics burnout: aqua style? The moves seem simple, but it is one of the most lucrative ways to work the entire body and you will sleep great after too.
No matter what path you choose, sweat, sculpt and smile all of 2020. Once you get into a routine the new inclusion will become an extension of yourself. Remember not to obsess over scheduling as that can take all the fun out of the activity. It’s important to remember that all of these activities should continue after Ash Wednesday and even take you into Carnival 2021. It may be tough to start but even more bothersome to start over. Stay the course and reap the rewards of feeling marvellous and looking wonderful too.
