The vibrant pulse of Caribbean creativity returned to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) on September 14, as Photo-Synthesis Designs staged a breathtaking Spring/Summer 2026 presentation, “Long Time,” on the 7th-floor terrace at 335 Madison Avenue.
The T&T-based label—renowned for its bold, custom-printed fashion and lifestyle pieces—opened Flying Solo’s first runway show of the day at 10.30 am, unveiling eight looks that paid homage to Caribbean heritage, nostalgia and the beauty of home.
For the second time, Photo-Synthesis Designs captivated NYFW audiences, building on its growing reputation as a standout voice in contemporary Caribbean fashion. Having made an impressive debut at NYFW in 2022, the brand’s return signalled not only the rising global resonance of Caribbean designers but also a deepening appreciation for narratives that celebrate identity, memory and place.
Founded by designer Martrecia Alleyne, Photo-Synthesis Designs stands as a testament to the power of representation and cultural storytelling. The brand is synonymous with vivid prints featuring iconic imagery from across the Caribbean—each piece a canvas that invites dialogue between location and longing, tradition and innovation.
The Spring/Summer 2026 collection, aptly titled “Long Time,” is a reflective exploration of Alleyne’s personal journeys throughout the Caribbean. Each garment evokes nostalgia and yearning, capturing that instant longing to return as soon as one departs a beloved place.
Inspired by Alleyne’s recent travels, the collection highlights some of the region’s most storied destinations: the panoramic vistas of Shirley Heights in Antigua; the lush peaks of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains and the tranquil expanse of Bob Marley Beach; and the sacred serenity of the Temple in the Sea in T&T. Immortalised in custom prints, these locations serve as both subject and muse, grounding the collection in the lived experiences and dreams that shape Caribbean identity.
Kicking off Flying Solo’s runway schedule, Photo-Synthesis Designs presented eight looks that seamlessly wove together artistry, cultural commentary and innovative design. The 7th-floor terrace near Grand Central Station, with its sweeping views of New York’s skyline, provided a dramatic backdrop.
Each look in “Long Time” balanced contrasts and harmony. Breezy caftans emblazoned with panoramic landscapes met sharply tailored separates, while resort pieces shimmered with hues reminiscent of Caribbean flora and fauna. Fabric selection and printing technique received particular attention, rendering every detail—from glints of sunlight on water to the silhouette of distant mountains—with photographic precision and emotional depth.
Models wore Photo-Synthesis Designs pieces paired with jewellery curated through a Flying Solo collaboration with New York–based brand Roz, creating a holistic vision of Caribbean life and luxury.
Caribbean identity and culture
At the heart of Photo-Synthesis Designs is a commitment to celebrating the diversity and richness of Caribbean identity. Through its signature custom prints, the brand beautifies and educates, drawing global attention to both famous and overlooked sites. “Long Time” serves as a wearable archive of collective memory—a gallery that channels migration, belonging and the ever-present desire to return to one’s roots. It resonates with anyone who has ever left somewhere meaningful and felt the pull to return, whether to a place or a moment in time.
Gracing the runway were eight models—six from Flying Solo: Bo Montgomery, Hannah Grace, Karoline Gedda, Saqenda Dallas, Saruda Le and Lavinia Ruth; and two representing Photo-Synthesis Designs: Jesica Marie Hopper, reigning Mrs United USA and a returning model from the brand’s previous NYFW show, and Andrea Ramnath, an 18-year-old Trinidadian making her NYFW debut and already marked as “one to watch” for future success.
About Photo-Synthesis Designs
Photo-Synthesis Designs is a Trinidad-based brand specialising in custom-printed fashion and lifestyle products that showcase the beauty and soul of the Caribbean. From flowing caftans and tailored pants to high-fashion gowns, the label’s offerings are united by vivid imagery and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Each collection springs from Martrecia Alleyne’s vision: to honour the islands’ stories, landscapes and people, and to offer a fresh perspective on Caribbean fashion for a global audience.
This second NYFW appearance affirmed the brand’s growing influence and the international appetite for authentic Caribbean storytelling. Energy on the terrace was palpable as editors, buyers, influencers and fellow designers witnessed the unveiling of “Long Time”—a collection praised for its originality, emotional resonance and technical prowess.
Industry observers highlighted the collection’s standout use of site-specific prints, which transformed each look into both a statement piece and a map of memory. In a fashion landscape often dominated by Eurocentric or North American narratives, Photo-Synthesis Designs offered a refreshing alternative rooted in the rhythms of calypso, the hues of tropical sunsets and the lived realities of Caribbean communities.
With the successful presentation at NYFW Spring/Summer 2026, Photo-Synthesis Designs continues to chart a path for Caribbean designers on the world stage.
