Last week 550 children from Tamana and Barataria received toys and goodies as part of Digicel Foundation’s #sharemore Christmas initiative. Martin’s Taxi Service and Councillor for Barataria Kimberly Small received $13,500 to provide holiday treats for children in rural Tamana and Barataria respectively.

Martin’s Taxi Service used his $6,750 in funding and partnered with Councillor for Wallerfield/La Horquetta Kerry-Anne Roberts-Kasmally, to treat 350 children with toys and other seasonal goodies at the Hill Activity Centre in Wallerfield.

“The children were surprised and overjoyed,” said Councillor Roberts-Kasmally. “I really have to thank Mr Martin and Digicel Foundation for helping my office make the season a happy one for these children.”

Meanwhile, Councillor for Barataria, Kimberly Small used her funding to support the community’s annual Toy and Food Hampers drive for families in the community. The party for 200 children took place on Saturday 18th December at the Barataria Community Center. In keeping with COVID protocols, families were given specific time slots and came with the children to collect their Christmas treat bags and gifts, and to take pictures with Santa.

Councillor Small, also distributed 33 hampers to families in need. “Thanks to Digicel Foundation, we had our full Christmas Food drive and Hamper distribution this year,” said Ms Small.

“I think these events were even more deeply appreciated than usual, because of the pandemic situation.”
