Last week 550 chil­dren from Tamana and Barataria re­ceived toys and good­ies as part of Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion’s #share­more Christ­mas ini­tia­tive. Mar­tin’s Taxi Ser­vice and Coun­cil­lor for Barataria Kim­ber­ly Small re­ceived $13,500 to pro­vide hol­i­day treats for chil­dren in rur­al Tamana and Barataria re­spec­tive­ly.

Mar­tin’s Taxi Ser­vice used his $6,750 in fund­ing and part­nered with Coun­cil­lor for Waller­field/La Hor­quet­ta Ker­ry-Anne Roberts-Kas­mal­ly, to treat 350 chil­dren with toys and oth­er sea­son­al good­ies at the Hill Ac­tiv­i­ty Cen­tre in Waller­field.

“The chil­dren were sur­prised and over­joyed,” said Coun­cil­lor Roberts-Kas­mal­ly. “I re­al­ly have to thank Mr Mar­tin and Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion for help­ing my of­fice make the sea­son a hap­py one for these chil­dren.”

Mean­while, Coun­cil­lor for Barataria, Kim­ber­ly Small used her fund­ing to sup­port the com­mu­ni­ty’s an­nu­al Toy and Food Ham­pers dri­ve for fam­i­lies in the com­mu­ni­ty. The par­ty for 200 chil­dren took place on Sat­ur­day 18th De­cem­ber at the Barataria Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­ter. In keep­ing with COVID pro­to­cols, fam­i­lies were giv­en spe­cif­ic time slots and came with the chil­dren to col­lect their Christ­mas treat bags and gifts, and to take pic­tures with San­ta.

Coun­cil­lor Small, al­so dis­trib­uted 33 ham­pers to fam­i­lies in need. “Thanks to Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion, we had our full Christ­mas Food dri­ve and Ham­per dis­tri­b­u­tion this year,” said Ms Small.

“I think these events were even more deeply ap­pre­ci­at­ed than usu­al, be­cause of the pan­dem­ic sit­u­a­tion.”
