When Ershvin Kaur came to T&T for a visit a few years ago, little did she think that she would fall in love—twice.
A few years ago, Ershvin was part of a busy sales recruitment team and was struggling with lower back pain issues. In the time since, she has rekindled her love of yoga which has helped her healing and found what she believes is the perfect home for her in T&T.
“I was experiencing a lot of demands at work, and I needed something to stay focused,” explains Ershvin. “I began doing yoga again, and it brought me a lot of clarity of mind. Within the first few sessions of getting back into it, I already knew I wanted to teach.”
Ershvin took on the training needed to become certified to teach her passion to others, completing 200 hours in yoga teacher training in 2020 and 300 hours in 2021. As a full-time teacher, she has taught over 700 in-studio classes in the past year alone.
As Ershvin was interweaving yoga into her life, she was discovering a whole new place where she belonged. “I was blown away by Trinidad and Tobago on vacation some years ago,” she says. “The friendly community, amazing food and unique culture—even on the plane to Trinidad, there was a massive shift in vibe compared to the many connecting flights prior.”

Ershvin also found an athletic community in her new home where she could share her passion. Friends introduced her to Bafasports, and she began participating in the organisation’s events and challenges.
“I was no stranger to races and fitness events in other countries even formerly working with world class athletes myself,” she explains.
“Bafasports was still able to impress me being a powerhouse for such events on this small island.”
The camaraderie she experienced in the group helped convince her to make T&T home, and she felt that she had a unique opportunity to contribute to the events by conducting yoga sessions in conjunction with the organisation.
“Runners and frequent walkers are also notorious for having tight hamstrings, hips flexors and knee problems,” she explains.
“Countless Olympic athletes, including runners, cyclists and gymnasts, use yoga for performance enhancement and healing and injury prevention.”
Ershvin will be holding cool down yoga sessions at upcoming Bafasports events to help participants in their recovery after running, walking or hiking.
Ershvin is hosting yoga sessions geared especially for runners and walkers every Monday at Trinebox at Borde Street, Port-of-Spain and weather permitting, every Thursday at the Eddie Hart Savannah in Tacarigua. She will also host beginner’s yoga classes every Wednesday evening at La Joya Sports Complex in St Joseph.
Registration is at www.bafasports.com or https://bafasports.com/yoga.
Bafasports founder Nigel Bellamy expressed his satisfaction with including this new element to his organisation’s events which are geared to help promote healthy lifestyles in participants of all ages.
