Kr­ish­na and Bab­sy Ma­haraj re­cent­ly cel­e­brat­ed their 60th wed­ding an­niver­sary with great joy and hap­pi­ness flow­ing around them at the Munroe Road Hin­du Mandir in cen­tral Trinidad. Fam­i­ly and friends from far and wide gath­ered to cel­e­brate the cou­ple who had shown so much love and ded­i­ca­tion to each oth­er, to the fam­i­ly they raised, and to the com­mu­ni­ties they sup­port­ed.

Kr­ish­na Ma­haraj was born in 1936 in Five Rivers, Arou­ca, while Bab­sy née Dip­nar­i­nesingh was born in 1938 in Mamoral. The cou­ple met in Win­nipeg, Cana­da.

Kr­ish­na has a BSc in Chem­istry, and Bab­sy com­plet­ed a de­gree in Ra­di­ol­o­gy. They wed on Au­gust 25, 1963, at the St James Hin­du Mandir. Kr­ish­na spent 30 ded­i­cat­ed years at then Fed­chem, now Yara, while Bab­sy found­ed an X-ray lab in Pe­tit Bourg.

The cou­ple has two sons, Shi­va (born 1964) and Rishi (born 1967), five grand­chil­dren, two grand­chil­dren in-law and one great grand­child. The cou­ple is proud to note that four of their grand­chil­dren are doc­tors, while one is a busi­ness own­er.

Kr­ish­na and Bab­sy said they are best friends who spend all their time to­geth­er. They love to trav­el, have been on a num­ber of cruis­es and have en­joyed vis­it­ing In­dia many times over the years.
