Krishna and Babsy Maharaj recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with great joy and happiness flowing around them at the Munroe Road Hindu Mandir in central Trinidad. Family and friends from far and wide gathered to celebrate the couple who had shown so much love and dedication to each other, to the family they raised, and to the communities they supported.
Krishna Maharaj was born in 1936 in Five Rivers, Arouca, while Babsy née Dipnarinesingh was born in 1938 in Mamoral. The couple met in Winnipeg, Canada.
Krishna has a BSc in Chemistry, and Babsy completed a degree in Radiology. They wed on August 25, 1963, at the St James Hindu Mandir. Krishna spent 30 dedicated years at then Fedchem, now Yara, while Babsy founded an X-ray lab in Petit Bourg.
The couple has two sons, Shiva (born 1964) and Rishi (born 1967), five grandchildren, two grandchildren in-law and one great grandchild. The couple is proud to note that four of their grandchildren are doctors, while one is a business owner.
Krishna and Babsy said they are best friends who spend all their time together. They love to travel, have been on a number of cruises and have enjoyed visiting India many times over the years.
