Morvant filmmaker Damian “Rastaman” Marcano has secured his second consecutive Emmy Award, and he’s dedicating it to all of T&T.
The 78th edition of the awards were held on Monday, at which the US series The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series. Marcano is one of the show’s co-producers, which airs on HBO Max.
“(These Emmy Awards) belong to Morvant, to Port-of-Spain, to every young dreamer from Laventille to Point Fortin, from Scarborough to San Fernando,” Marcano said.
The show won the same category at last year’s awards.
Marcano urged the people of T&T to believe in themselves and continue aspiring, showing the world the power of a small island with a mighty spirit. “Love allyuh deeply,” he added.
Marcano grew up in Morvant and moved to the United States when he was about 12 years old.
He has spoken about Morvant being a major influence on his film-making. He described himself as coming from “the tippy top” of the community and compared it to the setting of City of God.
