This year marks a landmark moment in Caribbean culture: the 50th anniversary of Paul Keens-Douglas’ extraordinary career as a performer, author and producer.
For five decades, the beloved creator of the Tim Tim storytelling series has enthralled audiences with his distinctive voice and unwavering commitment to preserving the region’s oral traditions.
Tim Tim first took the stage at the Little Carib Theatre in September 1975, with Keens-Douglas—already nicknamed “Tim Tim” in theatrical circles—joined by guitarist Gene Lawrence and the Creola Singers of his Creola Theatre Group. What began as a modest production has since grown into a cherished institution, delighting generations of audiences at home and abroad.
Today, Keens-Douglas is not only a celebrated storyteller but also an international performer, educator and motivational speaker with numerous publications to his credit. His contributions have earned him a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) from The University of the West Indies and, most recently, the prestigious Icon Award at Carifesta XV.
To honour this milestone, a special anniversary production, Ent Dat Nice!, will be staged at the Central Bank Auditorium on October 11 and 12. The event will feature some of Keens-Douglas’ most iconic pieces and pay tribute to his lifelong dedication to the oral traditions of the Caribbean.
Adding to the celebration will be fellow storytellers Avion Crooks, Farida Chapman and Miguel Browne, presenting works inspired by Keens-Douglas’ literary legacy. Musical performances by acclaimed vocalist Candice Alcantara and renowned saxophonist Tony Paul will round out the programme.
Ent Dat Nice! promises an evening of rich cultural heritage, vibrant performances and heartfelt reflection—perfect for fans, families and friends alike.
