In less than 24-hours Avindale Smith had his silver medal won in the boys under-17 400 metres contest upgraded to gold after the judges found that Barbadian Kyle Gale, who won the race had violated rule 163.3 during the final on Friday afternoon at the Carifta Games in Nassau, Bahamas.

Gale's run was a record performance after he clocked 47.07 seconds. It was not so much that he broke the record but the fact the old mark belonged to Jamacia's Usain Bolt who retired last year as undoubtedly the greatest sprinter the world has seen.

Only five runners contested the event.

In the boys Under-20 400 metres run, T&T's representative Onal Mitchell had to settle for sixth place with a time of 48.16 seconds. The race was won by Jamaican Dashawn Morris in 46.58 seconds.

Che Saunders came up short in his effort to medal for T&T when he finished fifth in the boys Under-17 high jump coontest after producing a height of just 1.85 metres. Jamaica's Romaine Beckford secured the gold medal with a leap of 2.00 metres.
