Robert Young just returned from Portugal Fashion Week where The Cloth showed on the main Runway through the Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) inclusion. This resulted from a partnership between the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs in Portugal and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) promoting the African textile and clothing industry in Portugal.
In recent years, The Cloth has been one of three Caribbean brands to be featured on the Iberian Peninsula. The others are Peta Oudini Sutherland from St Vincent and the Grenadines and the collaboration of PAPAIŸO and Meiling, who were featured last year.
These international inroads speak volumes for our regional creative excellence and Caribbean fashion sensibility.
“The opportunity was significant, representing a Caribbean brand on a European platform within an African context. The response was phenomenal with opportunities for trade opening up. Also, it was great experiencing how the Portuguese support their artisanal craft and slow fashion in the city of Porto,” said Robert Young, the founder and principal designer of the fashion house The Cloth.
Easter is about renewal and welcoming fresh energy. So a touch of The Cloth with its inspirational collection of vibrancy and joie de vivre can certainly brighten up our style focus going forward. Here’s to breathing-fabric style and eco-friendly fashion as we congratulate The Cloth on such a monumental milestone!
