The fourth edition of the Tobago Jazz and Music Weekend promises to have patrons swinging in more ways than one.
The annual event, organised by Black 2 Sugars, will be held from May 1–3 at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort in Lowlands.
A golf competition will get the ball rolling on May 1 at the resort’s course from 8 am- 5 pm, blending sport with the smooth sounds that define the weekend.
The festivities continue from 6 pm to 11 pm with Come Een, a back-in-times cooler event featuring Oscar B and several top DJs, setting the tone for a lively opening night.
On May 2, the signature drinks-inclusive Beachfront Jazz experience takes centre stage from 1 pm to 8 pm.
The curtain will come down on May 3 with Fairways Jazz Under The Stars, scheduled from 5 pm-10 pm, promising an elegant finale under the evening sky.
Patrons can look forward to live performances from renowned US award-winning saxophonist Dr Jazmin Ghent, newly crowned Calypso Monarch Terri Lyons, Trinidad-born bassist, steelpan player, arranger and composer Ron Reid, guitarist Theron Shaw, and vocalist Llettesha Sylvester. Additional artistes are expected to be announced as the event draws closer.
Co-founder Kerry Roach said he is excited about this year’s edition, noting that patrons from the United States, across the Caribbean and from Trinidad are already making bookings.
Roach said the event debuted in 2023 at Mt Irvine before moving to Turtle Beach the following year. Now in its second consecutive year at Magdalena, he believes the festival has found its home.
He added that Ghent has thrilled audiences around the world and expects her performance to be a major highlight, alongside a strong cast of local acts set to complement the musical weekend.
