Hun­dreds turned out as the St Charles (Tu­na­puna) Girls’ Ro­man Catholic School held its walkathon last Sat­ur­day.

The theme was ‘Let peace be­gin with me’ and was a bold state­ment to in­flu­ence stu­dents, their par­ents/guardians and the wider com­mu­ni­ty to en­cour­age peace in their sur­round­ings, as crime and vi­o­lence have be­come too in­grained in the com­mu­ni­ty, which has been la­belled a “hot spot” by the TTPS due to the gang ac­tiv­i­ty tak­ing place there.

The walk be­gan from the school com­pound at 7 am and took the par­tic­i­pants through the Tu­na­puna com­mu­ni­ty be­fore end­ing at the school, which is lo­cat­ed along the East­ern Main Road.

Af­ter the event, stu­dents and their fam­i­lies had break­fast and par­tic­i­pat­ed in some fun ac­tiv­i­ties.
