Ishana Edgar, an 18-year-old second-year Business Management student at the University of the Southern Caribbean, walked away with the prestigious title of Miss Central Trinidad when the Couva Carnival Committee (CCC) staged its marquee event at the Couva Carnival Centre on Saturday.
Edgar, who hails from San Fernando, also captured two of the individual prizes on offer, Miss Photogenic and Best Costume. She won a cash prize of $8,000 and a trophy.
“I was astonished when I was announced as the winner. I love to be on the stage and showcase my talents. I intend to represent the people of Central Trinidad to the best of my ability,” Edgar, who represented Full Barrel Sports Bar, said afterwards.
She said her interests include dance, music and modelling.
Runner-up was Damisha Dyer (Miss Virgo Consultants), with Shernisha Francis (Sinanan Dass & Associates placing third.
Also winning individual prizes were Clevette Matterson (Miss Amity); Shernisha Francis (Best Passion Platform) and Damisha Dyer (Best Gown and Miss Intelligence).
CCC chairman Ramchand Rajbal Maraj hailed the pageant as a great success, commending the show’s coordinator Marcia Merrick-Mohamed for a good job. The competition was staged as one of the CCC’s premier 2026 Carnival events.
For her part, Merrick-Mohamed said it had been a great honour and a humbling experience to be asked once again to produce the pageant.
“I am grateful to the sponsors who answered my calls for everything from sponsoring the girls to the outstanding stage production,” she added.
