The journey of Ramps Logistics Trinidad, which is located in Cunupia, started 38 years ago and the company’s goal is to keep growing and expanding regionally and internationally.
Ramps is known as a provider of freight forwarding and supply chain management services.
Vice president of regional initiatives, Rudy Rampersad, told the Business Guardian that his father Ramnarine Rampersad, started Ramps in 1985 with two main goals in mind: to provide better opportunities for his family and to create a strong brand that could provide opportunities for others to better themselves.
He envisioned a company that not only thrived in the competitive logistics industry but also contributed positively to the lives of those it touched.
Rudy Rampersad said his father’s vision was deeply rooted in the desire to uplift the Cunupia community and offer a platform for growth and development.
Rampersad noted the decision to start Ramps was driven by a commitment to excellence and a passion for making a difference.
“My father’s entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to hard work laid the groundwork for the company’s success. His focus on building a reputable brand that could stand the test of time has been instrumental in shaping our company’s ethos. Today, Ramps continues to embody these values, striving to create opportunities and foster growth for our employees, partners, and the communities we serve,” Rampersad highlighted.
As it pertains to growing and expanding the company, Rampersad who is from Cunupia said the goal is to keep growing both regionally and internationally.
“We are constantly exploring new opportunities to enter emerging markets and strengthen our presence in existing ones. Our expansion strategy is driven by a commitment to providing innovative logistics solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients. By identifying and capitalising on growth opportunities, we aim to solidify our position as a leader in the logistics industry.
“Our focus on expansion is not just about increasing our market share; it is also about delivering value to our clients and contributing to the development of the regions we operate in. We believe that by expanding into new markets, we can create more opportunities for our employees and partners, while also driving economic growth and development. Our vision for the future is one of continuous growth, innovation, and positive impact,” he explained.
Ramps currently operate in Guyana, Suriname, Colombia, Mexico, Houston, and Miami with a rough employee headcount of 321.
Asked how many countries the company exports to, Rampersad indicated that Ramp’s exports to every continent in the world, servicing many multinational companies and big players in the commercial and oil and gas industry.
“We have built strong partnerships with companies across various industries, enabling us to facilitate seamless trade and transportation worldwide.
“The percentage of exports that represents our company is significant, reflecting our role as a key player in the logistics sector. Our ability to handle complex and large-scale operations has earned us a reputation for excellence and reliability. By continuously expanding our reach and enhancing our capabilities, we ensure that Ramps remains a trusted partner for businesses looking to navigate the complexities of global trade,” he disclosed.
Questioned on what his advice to Trinbagonians, who already own businesses, or to those seeking to enter the world of business, Rampersad said there must first be a clear purpose and vision.
“Starting a business is not just about personal success; it is about creating opportunities for those around you and improving their quality of life. Identify a need in your community or industry and find innovative ways to address it.
“Passion, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence are crucial components of any successful venture. Always strive to provide value and make a positive impact. For those who already own businesses, it is essential to adopt sustainable practices to ensure long-term success,” he added.
