Guardian Media has confirmed that the managing director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Jayselle McFarlane, has tendered her resignation after almost five years of service.
In a letter dated January 6, addressed to HDC chairman Feroze Khan, McFarlane formally notified the board that her departure will take effect this Friday.
In her correspondence, McFarlane wrote: “After careful consideration, I am submitting my resignation from my position as managing director with the T&T Housing Development Corporation (HDC), effective Friday, 9th January 2026.”
She described her tenure as a privilege, highlighting contributions to expanding payment options for homeowners, automating internal processes and advancing strategic initiatives aligned with the corporation’s mission.
Speaking with Guardian Media, she said her resignation was due to personal reasons.
McFarlane assured the HDC board of her commitment to a smooth transition, pledging to facilitate the handover of responsibilities to her successor in order to minimise disruption.
She expressed gratitude to the HDC’s leadership team, staff and colleagues for their support and collaboration, noting that she leaves with “fond memories and deep appreciation for the opportunities I have had to serve.”
Her resignation marks the end of a four-year-and eight-month period in which the HDC pursued modernisation of its systems and sought to improve service delivery to citizens.
Her leadership coincided with efforts to strengthen financial management and expand access to housing solutions, areas that remain central to the HDC’s mandate.
Her departure comes at a critical juncture for the state agency, which continues to face high demand for affordable housing and pressure to deliver on long-standing commitments.
Sources within the HDC told Guardian Media that deputy managing director, Wazeer Aleem, would hold the position until a suitable candidate is found.
Aleem is the former procurement manager and chief operations officer at Education Facilities Company Ltd (EFCL).
