The Central Statistical Office has announced that the inflation rate for August 2025, which measures the percentage change in the all items index for the month of August 2025 over August 2024, was 1.4 per cent.
This represents a decrease from 1.5 per cent for the previous period (July 2025/July 2024).
The inflation rate for the comparative period (August 2024/August 2023) was 0.4 per cent.
In a release issued yesterday it also noted that the all items index calculated from the prices collected for the month of August 2025 was 125.6, representing a decrease of 0.1 point or 0.1 per cent below the all items index for July 2025.
The index for food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased from 154.6 in July 2025 to 153.6 in August 2025, reflecting a decrease of 0.6 per cent.
Contributing significantly to this decrease was the general downward movement in the prices of tomatoes, cucumber, ochroes, melongene, eddoes, green sweet pepper, garlic, pumpkin, carbonated soft drinks and chive.
However, the full impact of these price decreases was offset by the general increase in the prices of irish potatoes, pimento, hot peppers, cheddar cheese, onions, fresh carite, parboiled rice, celery, melon and fresh steak.
The CSO added that a further review of the data for August 2025 compared with July 2025 showed increases in the sub-indices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco of 0.3 per cent, clothing and footwear of 0.7 per cent and health 0.2 per cent.
