The Central Statistical Office (CSO) has noted a slight increase in inflation as well as food and non-alcoholic beverages in the month of June 2025.
In the CSO’s Consumer Price Index for the month of June, it stated, “The inflation rate for June 2025, which measures the percentage change in the all-items index for the month of June 2025 over June 2024, was 1.5 per cent. This represents an increase from 1.4 per cent for the previous period (May 2025/May 2024). The inflation rate for the comparative period (June 2024/June 2023) was 0.7 per cent.”
The CSO stated that according to the All Items Index calculated from the prices collected for the month of June 2025 was 125.6, representing an increase of 0.3 points or 0.2 per cent above the All Items Index for May 2025.
The Index stated, “Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased from 153.4 in May 2025 to 155.5 in June 2025, reflecting an increase of 1.4 per cent.”
The CSO said this increase was significantly driven by the general upward movement in the prices of tomatoes, fresh whole chickens, cucumber, celery, sweet potatoes, soya bean oil, eddoes, grapes, cabbage and oranges. Conversely the full impact of these price increases was offset by the general decrease in the prices of pumpkin, garlic, hot peppers, fresh carite, parboiled rice, plantains, fresh salmon, table margarine, melon and pimento.
The CSO said, price changes in this section for the month of June 2025 accounted for a net overall increase of 0.4 points.
However the report noted that there was a slight decrease in clothing and footwear of 0.1 per cent.
The CSO noted that other sections remained unchanged.
