LIAT has announced it will be conducting cashless transactions at it counters at the Princess Juliana International Airport, St Maarten, from Thursday, January 27.

In a release announcing the cashless transactions, the airline said it will assist in a smoother operation for passengers and staff.

The airline said in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing process to rebuild its network layout, it “has been reviewing its operations with the aim of investing in processes for customer safety and security throughout the customer journey.”

The release continued, “The cashless transactions will assist customers by reducing wait times, allowing them to easily pay for services as well as to reduce the potential social contract and spread of the coronavirus. Passengers will now pay for airline services such as baggage and change fees using either a debit or credit card. Passengers can also now call the reservations call centre to pre-book and pay for their bags before coming to the airport.”

LIAT also confirmed that passengers will receive their receipts electronically thereby reducing the use of paper.

This LIAT said, is part of its push to be an eco-friendly airline.

The company said it will be working to implement a cashless system across its network in the coming months as it works to reconnect the Caribbean.

LIAT currently flies to 10 destinations across the Caribbean.
