LJ Williams will be under new leadership in the new year.
In a notice posted to the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange yesterday, the company confirmed that Dr Krishna Bahadoorsingh would step down as chairman at the end of the year.
The post stated that Bahadoorsingh would resign as a director and chairman of the company effective December 31, 2023, and he would be replaced by Lawford Dupres.
Dupres has been a director at the company since 2002.
The posting confirmed that he will be appointed as company chairman from January 1, 2024.
Dr Bahadoorsingh joined the board of LJ Williams in 1996 and was appointed chairman in 2001, after the passing of former chairman Ronald Jay Williams.
The company said Bahadoorsingh had been a steady hand and good counsel over the years.
The posting stated, “He has brought a different perspective to our distribution business and shepherded our entry into the retail business with The Home Store.”
The Home Store had become a key component in the company in recent years and after a difficult period during the COVID-19 pandemic, pushed through with expansion plans.
In the past two years, the Home Store opened branches in West Mall, Westmoorings; East Gates Mall in Trincity and the Amazonia Mall in Guyana, its first international branch.
