Five weeks after Garvin Medera’s departure from the role of CEO of Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL), Digicel has announced his appointment as the company’s CEO for the Atlantic region.
The Atlantic region is responsible for the company’s operations in Turks & Caicos, Cayman Islands and Bermuda.
In a release yesterday, Digicel hailed Medera’s return to the company, stating it was “a significant milestone in Digicel’s ongoing transformation and a reaffirmation of our commitment to exceptional leadership and service.”
Digicel explained that Medera had played a significant role while previously at the telecommunications company, as the release said he contributed to the development of the company’s pioneering telecom and fibre networks across the region.
The company also stated that his time as chairman of the Digicel Foundation in Trinidad & Tobago helped shape his commitment to meaningful community connection.
Medera joined CAL after resigning from his job as CEO of Digicel Play in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Marcelo Cataldo, Group CEO of Digicel, said, “Garvin’s return to Digicel is both a professional reunion and a powerful signal of our future. He understands our mission at its core, connecting communities through service, trust, and reliability. As Digicel continues to transform, his blend of regional insight and global leadership will help us accelerate our next chapter with clarity and ambition.”
Medera said, “Returning to Digicel feels both meaningful and motivating. This is where I first learned the true weight of connecting people, not just through technology, but through service. I look forward to working with this exceptional team to shape the next era of connectivity for our customers and communities.”
Digicel’s chief people officer, Terry Arnold added, “At Digicel, our transformation is driven by leaders who combine regional depth with world-class execution. Garvin reflects that balance. Having started his career with us, he now returns with a wealth of experience to strengthen teams, elevate performance, and build the next generation of leadership across the Atlantic region.”
Digicel also acknowledged his work at CAL in the release, stating, “In his most recent role as CEO of Caribbean Airlines, Garvin led a complex transformation that delivered operational profitability, digital modernisation, and a renewed customer focus. His leadership balanced performance with purpose, a philosophy that aligns seamlessly with Digicel’s ambition to elevate customer experience across every market we serve.”
Medera was one of several executive departures from Caribbean Airlines in the past six months.
Last week, Caribbean Airlines was named as the Internationally Known … T&T Owned Company of the Year at the T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s Champions of Business Awards Gala 2025.
At the event last week, CAL chair Reyna Kowlessar said interviews and assessments were still being done concerning the filling of leadership roles at the airline.
