Deoraj Mahase has been appointed to act as resident of the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation (Plipdeco).
Mahase, who is currently the vice president – Technical Services at Plipdeco, is set to take the role from today, January 1, 2026.
His appointment was announced in a posting to the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange yesterday.
The post stated, “This interim appointment follows the resignation of the substantive president and has been made to ensure continuity of executive leadership and the effective discharge of the Corporation’s operational, strategic, and statutory responsibilities.”
In December, it was confirmed that Dr Curtis Dennie resigned as president of the Plipdeco. His resignation took effect yesterday, December 31. He had been appointed to the role in August, initially for a three-month stint, which was extended.
Plipdeco has undergone a series of changes in leadership over the past 18 months, with former acting president Dr Averne Pantin resigning effective February 7, 2025, after being sent on administrative leave.
Pantin was appointed to act as president effective July 29, 2024.
That was the same day the Plipdeco board announced that its last substantive president, Ashley Taylor, was placed on administrative leave.
Pantin, whose substantive position was vice-president, technical services, was placed on administrative leave effective January 20.
The entire board of Plipdeco resigned, effective July 18, 2025, following the change of government at the end of April.
A new board was appointed with Ramnarine Persad as chairman and board members, including Vanessa Kussie, the widow of Rishi Nagassar, who was one of the four Land and Marine Construction Services (LMCS) divers killed in the February 2022 Paria Fuel diving tragedy.
Other members of the new board are Sieunarine Babwah, Karunaa Bisramsingh, Trevor Joseph, Mulchan Lewis, Ramchand Maraj, Sadia Mohammed, Marsha Padia, Rondell Parsotan, Jonathan Poliah, Indy Samaroo and Jeffery Sookram.
