As chairmen from major state boards continue to resign due to the change in government on Monday, the latest is Trinidad Petroleum Holdings Ltd (TPHL) chairman Michael Quamina.
In a memo to staff yesterday, Quamina said, “Serving as your chairman has been a distinct honour and privilege. As I prepare to leave office, I want to express my sincere admiration, appreciation, and gratitude to each of you, This journey has been exciting and fulfilling, and you have all been amazing travel companions through the ups and downs, highs and lows, the good times and even the challenging ones.”
Quamina told the staff not to forget that they are a member of a strong and important organisation that, in whatever form it may take, plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation's future.
“To work for this Group is a true privilege, and I am extremely proud of its accomplishments, none of which would have been possible, without your unwavering dedication and sterling contribution. Thank you, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours,” he concluded.
TPHL has four subsidiaries: Heritage Petroleum Company; Paria Fuel Trading Company; Guaracara Refinery and Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Petrotrin).
Quamina was appointed TPHL chairman in August 2019.
On Wednesday Caribbean Airlines’ chairman Shameer ‘Ronnie’ Mohammed confirmed to staff he was stepping down.
In a bulletin to staff, Mohammed said, “As I prepare to step down from my role as chairman of the board of directors, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each, and every one of you at Caribbean Airlines. It has been an incredible journey working alongside such a dedicated and passionate group of individuals.”
Mohammed was appointed to the board of Caribbean Airlines in November 2016.
His announcement follows Tuesday's resignations of Sahid Hosein as the chairman of the National Petroleum Marketing Co Ltd and Hillan Morean as chairman of the East Port-of-Spain Development Company Ltd.
The convention in T&T is that directors of state boards appointed by one administration resign when a new political party is elected.
