Tobago Correspondence
The National Gas Company (NGC) Green Limited yesterday commissioned Tobago’s first public CNG station, a $4 million cashless establishment, which Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young described as the best of its kind in the country.
“If there is one thing that you take away here today, of all the things happening in Tobago...is to understand the importance of the energy sector and the NGC group of companies and us having a future.”
NGC will launch a campaign on the island to encourage more motorists to switch to CNG by offering free conversion.
The company is also expected to acquire the station’s license in the coming weeks, officially beginning service to the public.
Young highlighted T&T’s efforts to promote gas production, emphasising the significance of NGC in safeguarding future generations.
“The importance of NGC for protecting future generations and what needs to be done in the important gas sector.
“It is critical for us in Trinidad and Tobago to stand up with the NGC group, stand up with our gas suppliers and promote gas. That is what me and the prime minister have been doing globally and the conversation has borne fruit.”
He raised concerns about a lack of understanding regarding developments in the energy sector since 2015.
“NGC in the gas industry, which is a global industry, is going to be deriving the profitability and the revenue for us with gas going forward.
“It sometimes bothers me when people don’t see, don’t understand, don’t care to understand what has been happening in the energy sector since 2015, not for the government, not for the minister, but for the people of Tobago and Trinidad.”
He further mentioned that NGC is working to position itself as a shareholder across the entire value chain with the support of the Prime Minister and the cabinet.
