The Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation ( TTPost) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Labour which would have 26 On-the-Job trainees (OJTs) brought into the organisation.
TTpost general manager George Alexis said yesterday the agreement will help help the company pivot as it adapts to modern demands.
“Management recognised the potential of a programme like this not only in nurturing the next generation of leaders but also in strengthening our organisation by introducing fresh ideas and perspectives. This is especially important as TTPost transitions from traditional mail services to digital and courier solutions.”
Alexis noted that the postal company delivered solid third-quarter results as it continued to focus on executing its client-focused strategy by leveraging the digital infrastructure, deepening client relationships and promoting a highly connected workforce.
Alexis also outlined that the agreement aims to enhance youth employment through structured on-the-job training and that the OJT programme will support continuous improvement.
He added that trainees will receive robust support, guidance, and resources for effective contribution and professional growth.
Also speaking was Natalie Willis, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Labour, who said that the programme helps by making the process of the actual transition, whereby young people, can smoothly access productive and decent work opportunities that make effective use of their skills to economic development.
“Our OJT graduates have been absorbed by many of our training providers, who have now taken a deliberate approach to partner with this programme, as a pathway in their succession planning and talent management strategy,” Willis said.
She noted that the ministry continues to focus on the provision of decent work, the facilitation of industrial peace and opportunities for all, especially with the youth force development.
“The On-the-Job Training Division currently manages a cohort of over 5,000 trainees and over 1,000 registered training providers, comprising private and public sectors and NGOs,” Willis added.
