Young discusses Atlantic LNG with BP

At­lantic LNG was one of the top­ics dis­cussed as Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries Stu­art Young met vir­tu­al­ly with BP Ex­ec­u­tives yes­ter­day con­cern­ing the com­pa­ny’s cur­rent pro­duc­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

BP’s ex­ec­u­tive vice Pres­i­dent for gas and low car­bon en­er­gy Dev Sanyal, EVP, Claire Fitz­patrick, Se­nior Vice Pres­i­dent spoke with the En­er­gy Min­is­ter about the progress of its cur­rent projects, in­clud­ing, Mat­a­pal and Cas­sia C, fu­ture gas pro­duc­tion and con­tin­ued in­vest­ments in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

In a re­lease from the Min­istry, it was con­firmed the re­struc­tur­ing of At­lantic LNG and the im­por­tance of the on­go­ing ne­go­ti­a­tions per­tain­ing to At­lantic was al­so ex­plored dur­ing the meet­ing.

The re­lease stat­ed BP reaf­firmed its com­mit­ment to the so­lar project that it is pur­su­ing as a joint ven­ture with Shell, as well as its com­mit­ment to gas pro­duc­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Dev Sanyal said that even as BP nav­i­gates the en­er­gy tran­si­tion, “gas is an es­sen­tial and in­te­gral part of the tran­si­tion and will be the sta­bil­is­ing in­flu­ence for decades to come”.

Min­is­ter Young said the Gov­ern­ment’s com­mit­ment is to en­sure that Trinidad and To­ba­go re­mains com­pet­i­tive in the glob­al en­er­gy en­vi­ron­ment while seek­ing to de­rive the best re­turns for the cit­i­zens of Trinidad and To­ba­go.

The Min­istry stat­ed the meet­ing was pro­duc­tive as par­ties agreed to con­tin­ue work­ing to en­sure fu­ture gas pro­duc­tion.

The ef­fects of the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic on the en­er­gy sec­tor glob­al­ly was al­so dis­cussed and BP recog­nised the Gov­ern­ment’s fa­cil­i­ta­tion of the en­er­gy sec­tor through­out the pan­dem­ic.
