Officers of the Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit (WDGIU) seized 1,000 rounds of 9-millimetre ammunition, and arrested one suspect, during an intelligence-led operation in Port of Spain on Wednesday.
The exercise took place between 1:15 pm and 4:00 pm, in the vicinity of Nelson Street Girls’ Primary School.
The Police Service says the officers received intelligence that led them to intercept a white Nissan Frontier. A detailed search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of:
• 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed in a cardboard box
• A quantity of cannabis
• Undisclosed sums of United States and Trinidad and Tobago currency
The vehicle’s lone occupant—a 40-year-old man of Leotaud Street, Laventille—was arrested and transported to the West End Police Station. The vehicle also was impounded there for safekeeping and further enquiries.
The TTPS says the operation was spearheaded by DCP Suzette Martin, Senior Superintendent Williams, ASP Gyan, ASP Brown, as well as Inspector Grant, and PC Joseph.
