Trinidad and To­ba­go yes­ter­day re­ceived 10,000 dos­es of As­traZeneca COVID-19 vac­cines, a do­na­tion from the Gov­ern­ment of Grena­da, a state­ment from the Min­istry of For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs con­firmed.

Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley had an­nounced on Sat­ur­day dur­ing a news con­fer­ence that the vac­cines were ex­pect­ed af­ter dis­cus­sions with Grena­da’s Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Mitchell.

The state­ment said that For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs Min­is­ter Dr Amery Browne, ac­com­pa­nied by Am­bas­sador of Trinidad and To­ba­go to the Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty Frances Seignoret and Prin­ci­pal Phar­ma­cist (Ag) at the Min­istry of Health Ane­sa Dood­nath-Si­boo, re­ceived the vac­cines at the Pi­ar­co In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port.

The vac­cines were trans­port­ed to this coun­try by the Trinidad and To­ba­go Air Guard.

“The Min­is­ter of For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs thanks the Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty and the Trinidad and To­ba­go De­fence Force for again re­spond­ing swift­ly to our need for trans­porta­tion of COVID-19 vac­cines from with­in the re­gion to Trinidad and To­ba­go,” the state­ment said.

It added that the gov­ern­ment ex­tend­ed its “pro­found ap­pre­ci­a­tion to the Gov­ern­ment of Grena­da for this time­ly do­na­tion of vac­cines, which will as­sist in ad­vanc­ing Trinidad and To­ba­go’s vac­ci­na­tion pro­gramme at this crit­i­cal junc­ture in its man­age­ment of the COVID-19 out­break lo­cal­ly.”

Trinidad and To­ba­go has pre­vi­ous­ly re­ceived vac­cine do­na­tions from Bar­ba­dos, St Vin­cent and the Grenadines and Bermu­da.
