There is now an attempt to help women and young girls who cannot afford menstrual products.
This initiative by the Syrian Lebanese Women’s Association (SLWA) is to donate reusable period panties to 150 girls through their impactful “Period Panty Project.”
According to the SLWA, in a release, they are taking a significant step towards addressing period poverty in T&T.
“This initiative aims to assist in alleviating the challenges faced by women and girls who lack access to affordable menstrual products, highlighting the importance of menstrual hygiene and empowering individuals in need,” SLWA said.
“These challenges often result in adverse consequences such as compromised health, limited educational opportunities, and diminished self-esteem.
Recognising the gravity of this issue, the members and friends of the SLWA have partnered with Rentokil Initial to launch “The Period Panty Project,” to ensure that women and girls have access to sustainable and safe menstrual products,” it added.
The reusable period panties offer an eco-friendly, cost effective and reliable alternative to traditional menstrual products. It is designed with a four-layer towel technology and featuring a special wicking layer, these period panties quickly absorb menstrual blood, eliminating any discomfort associated with a “wet feeling.”
Each recipient will receive five panties each, which can be washed and reused.
The SLWA has distributed these reusable period panties through the Living Water Community, and various secondary schools throughout the nation.
