17 parties, 161 candidates to contest April 28 general election

A to­tal of 161 can­di­dates will be con­test­ing the up­com­ing Par­lia­men­tary Elec­tions on April 28, the Elec­tion and Bound­aries Com­mis­sion (EBC) has con­firmed.

A state­ment by the EBC lists 17 po­lit­i­cal par­ties that have field­ed can­di­dates for the up­com­ing gen­er­al elec­tion.

The Peo­ple's Na­tion­al Move­ment is the on­ly par­ty con­test­ing all 41 seats.

The Pa­tri­ot­ic Front will con­test 37, fol­lowed by the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress with 34 and the Na­tion­al Trans­for­ma­tion Al­liance with 17.

There will al­so be three in­de­pen­dent can­di­dates in the 2025 race.

The in­de­pen­dents are Ernesto Singh in Ch­agua­nas East, Vi­vian John­son in Port-of-Spain North/St Ann's West and Leroy Richard Kel­ton George in To­ba­go West.
