18 suspects held in SoE operations

Eigh­teen peo­ple were ar­rest­ed and four firearms, along with quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion and nar­cotics, were seized dur­ing State of Emer­gency op­er­a­tions in the South­ern, South West­ern and Port of Spain Di­vi­sions yes­ter­day.

The South­ern Di­vi­sion op­er­a­tions, dubbed “Sum­mer Slam”, were co­or­di­nat­ed by Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Ben­jamin, ACP Mys­tar and Snr Supt Si­mon, and su­per­vised by Supt Jaikaran, ASP Ram­saran, ASP Morales, In­sp Wilkin­son, In­sp Rag­bir and In­sp Alexan­der. They in­volved of­fi­cers from the Guard and Emer­gency Branch, the In­ter-Agency Task Force, the Ca­nine Branch, the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice, Traf­fic War­dens and Li­cens­ing Of­fi­cers.

The ex­er­cis­es, con­duct­ed be­tween 4 am and 6 pm on Wednes­day 30th Ju­ly 2025, led to the ar­rest of 12 sus­pects for of­fences in­clud­ing pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion, lar­ce­ny, dri­ving with­out a per­mit and State of Emer­gency-re­lat­ed en­quiries. Of­fi­cers al­so is­sued 142 Fixed Penal­ty No­tices to er­rant mo­torists.

In the San Fer­nan­do dis­trict, an in­tel­li­gence-led op­er­a­tion be­tween 7 pm and 11 pm re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of two sus­pects for pos­ses­sion of a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion, and pos­ses­sion of cannabis.

Mean­while, South West­ern Di­vi­sion of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed four sus­pects in the Pe­nal dis­trict around 1:30 pm af­ter they were found with a shot­gun and five car­tridges.

In­ter-Agency Task Force of­fi­cers al­so con­duct­ed State of Emer­gency ex­er­cis­es yes­ter­day, seiz­ing a ri­fle, a pis­tol, quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion, cannabis and co­caine in Bel­mont, George Street Plan­nings and Up­per San­ta Cruz.

Those op­er­a­tions were led by ACP Hazel, Snr Supt Spence, Supt Ram­sook and act­ing ASP Singh.

Po­lice say in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing in­to all the in­ci­dents.
