A 32-year-old man of Prince Street, Biche has been charged with the attempted murder of his former wife.
Zalim Hosein, a father of three and a labourer appeared virtually before senior magistrate, Cheron Raphael .
Hosein was refused bail and the magistrate advised him to apply to a Judge in Chamber for bail.
His next court hearing date was put to April 6.
After an intensive week of investigation led by Sgt Leon and Cpl Rique of the Sangre Grande CID who sought advice from Eastern Divisional Legal Officer Sgt Cortez, the ex 32-year-old husband was charged with attempted murder.
Police reported that he has a similar offence pending in court.
According to police report this month, Hosein who was armed with a cutlass and approached his wife who was seen in the company of a male friend walking along Kowlessor Road, Coalmine and dealt her several chops about her head and hands.
He then made his escape on foot by running into the bushes and a few days later surrendered to Rio Claro Police.
The victim's hands were almost severed, but doctors at the Sangre Grande Hospital performed emergency surgery and was able to save her hands.
She was warded in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit.
Police said the 28-year-old mother of three remains warded in serious, but stable condition at hospital.
